Richard W. Flores

Richard W. Flores was born in Missler, Kansas, his father was a foreman on the Rock Island Railroad, he was the seventh of eight children. He graduated from Pratt Senior High and then graduated from St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City with a B.A. degree. His major was in History and minor in P.E and certification in secondary education. He taught and coached softball, basketball, and track for 8 years in a rural school in southwest Kingman County. He went on to be an Elementary Principal in three school districts in Nemaha, Haskell and Reno counties for 13 years.

He started his District Office experiences in Valley Center as Assistant Superintendent for 3 years then became Superintendent in the Renwick School District which is located in the western part of Sedgwick county for 5 years. He spent 4 years as the Superintendent of the Lansing School District in Leavenworth county then he became the Superintendent of the Oakley School District for 4 years. He spent 8 years as the Assistant Superintendent in the Mulvane School District before he came to the Vermillion School District as Superintendent in July of 2009.

He and his wife Mary have 6 grown children who live in the Wichita area and they have 12 grandchildren. Mary is enjoys babysitting the two youngest grandchildren.

Mr. Flores has his Bachelor Degree B.A. from St. Mary of the Plains. He then went on to earn his Master’s Degree M.S. and Educational Specialist’s Degree, ED.S.  both of which are from Fort Hays State University.

His hobbies are gardening, playing golf, and fishing. He also enjoys watching his grandchildren play sports and attending their holiday gatherings.
